So much happening this week.... tomorrow evening: Straight after work i'm off to London: Chinatown to celebrate my longest friends 21st birthday with dinner then on to soho/leicester square for (as the song goes) Titties and Beer ^.^
Then the next day off to recover (Gimme a shout if your free) then the 18th to the 21st in London Kensington Olympia immersing myself in Gencon Europe! ... Then another day off then the beer festival the week after! Yay!
So the next 3 weeks will be the most activity I have seen this year... almost depressing but i'm too excited :P

good news / bad news [25 Mar 2003|10:25am]
Good news: Salam Pax is still alive! I started reading his blog last wednesday... between then and now he's become a little famous (Front cover of the Guardian G2 paper yesterday)... i'll be more then interested to see what heppens to him once all this is over ^_^
Bad news: Mild food poisoning/tummy bug. This does however mean no work for me!

Think I might whip out sams camping bed and lounge in the sun for a while then.

Time flies.... [27 Feb 2003|03:13pm]
..Not at all when you have a hangover :(

Work night out last night... lots of beer to drink, then tapas at a spanish place near pavlovs dog, then back to the pub for more to drink and strange conversation with some random madwoman who attatched herself to our table.

Today: Hangover, instrospective mess of a brain and new cooker! A spell outside helped with the introspective mess (death, my conciousness, all punctuated by flashes of terror etc... the hangovers effect of feeling like i'm not entirely inside my body didn't help...) but now that its clouding over its coming back... Bah! need to keep busy.

Argh... [21 Feb 2003|02:00pm]
I really hate it when that happens.... It's the start of the day, i'm talking to david about grandparents and suddenly the whole of my brain focuses on one thought: "Your going to die some day... and then you will utterly cease to exist... oblivion for you bucko! Eternal, endless and you wont even know it..." Then I start to imagine what i'd feel the few seconds before death... and start to panic.
Its all passed now of course, I can't remember the exact sensation anymore and when I think about it I dont feel anything near the kind of sheer terror... hardly anything at all really.
Very odd.
In other news:
Watching Anime with Hannah was nice ^_^ ... must try and get some sort of anime night organised...

I completely failed to go protesting last weekend... I suck.

Roleplay goes well... my new D&D character: A Psion with his brother played by Matt being a Psychic Warrior are both getting intergrated into the group...Cuthulu is looking dodgy as we descent into the undreground catacombs around the Sphynx in Masks of Narlathotep and Hengayokai (Wherewolf set in the Ancient Orient) is drawing to a close.

I'm buying bens bike off him as mine's knackered.

Still no gas oven... If I cant find a second hand one i'm buying a new oven from currys.

Thats about it really... I'm going to go any enjoy the sunshine now ^_^

Boxes... [03 Feb 2003|05:48pm]
Four boxes recently were delivered to our office today... They contained: 2 17" Flatscreen Plasma Screens (85hz refresh at 1024 x 780) and 2 2.4 ghz 256meg (333mhz) PC's, complete with low-end Geforce 4 cards and 40gig HD's...

There both destined to be used for Data Entry

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Does anyone else here share my anguish at the abuse of two such lovely pieces of hardware?

Frozen [07 Jan 2003|03:09pm]
[ mood | cold ]

Argh...a light dusting of snow now covers Reading, making my bike journey to work nippilicious (a tad nippy)... As the saying goes "Cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey". If anyone knows where thatr colourful phrase originated please tell me ^_^

Now for the post-2002 life update!
(If anyone wants to be helpful tell me how to bung the below into a cut)

Nothing much has been happening :P

After Gencon I returned to my usual routine of watching some anime, going to work then roleplaying or just hanging around with the hordes of people that descend on the house at regular intervals :P
Things of note that have happened:
I'm now running a RIFTS game every other weekend: there all playing Coalition Soldiers, working for the evil Coalition States. I'm letting them form their own opinions on their situation and i'm looking forward to how they react to some of the moral issues and evil headfuckage I have in store for them ^_^
The office party ended in Clive (old jazz guy, mad but cool) getting hideously pissed and banging on the wrong house door when he got home, resulting in the police carting him home in a van :P
The company party resulted in clive getting hideously pissed and having to get a taxi home with david (my boss) :P
Christmas and New Years was nice, I got to catch up with everyone from church and from the group of friends back there ^_^
There was constant bitching from mum to get my hair cut and repeated replies ending most of the time in "off" :P
Apart ffrom the hair thing the holiday went nice and peacefully... I ended up in Stratford over new years with friends... much drinking and merriment ending with me getting the train back to Reading in the morning to be ready for work the next day :(
Thats all really, except to say that the Lord of the Rings board game (the one with the corruption ladder and 4 boards for the different storyline bits) can be easily converted into a drinking game and will result in the total ruination of the whole room (especially the ring bearer) before the end of helms deep (especially if sambuca is present).
Its nearly the end of work now and I have a freezing bike ride ahead of me...brrr :(

Oooh... its a long one! [16 Sep 2002|06:45pm]
Eeeesh, its been a while since I posted anything... well, heres a few updates on the state of affairs in my life:

Gencon! Was lots of fun... mostly dominated by the trade hall but still lots of fun. Thursday and Friday of it were dedicated to the fine art of shopping and getting ready for the games on saturday and sunday (I spent a *lot* of money in those two days :P ). I also played in my first V:TES card tourney and loved it (despite the vicious buggering I recieved at the hands of the malk deck that was my predator both times), I even managed to stave off defeat for most of the second game until the last half an hour when the rest of the table scented the coming draw and pummled me into submission :(
Saturday consisted of a wicked game of Paranoia, consisting of a blend of tabletop but mainly larp style play and far too much comedy to fit in one post :P and tabletop Cuthulu which r0xx0r3d ^_^
Sunday was "Team Fun", a unique game that happens each gencon, using a different system each year and a setting usually based around film or tv... and lots of comdey.
This year we found ouselves playing CBBC (Childrens BBC) characters based in BBC central house ona mission to save Bagpuss as he had been kidnapped by the pipe organ mice. The characters in each group were as folows: Mr Ben (Me), The Y-Bird (from playdays), Bob the Builder, Fireman Sam and Ivor the Engine... Enemies we encountered along the way consisted of Borglike Pingu, Thomas the tank engine and the Moomins :P The Horror... the horror...
And to round the day off there was the second game of the Cuthulu two-parter which started off very...very... slowly but in the last hour picked up to a frenetic fleeing from the insubstantial pumas that were chasing us... Wibble!
So yes... Gencon rocked, not a lot else has happened since then... work has been slow and tedious as only work can be... Roleplaying has been good, John has been running a good Cuthulu game (We gave rise to the quote "This is supposed to scare *you* not have you scare me!" after we enjoyed the depravity of a more than slightly dodgy/perverse club ^_^)... peted D&D is picking up and Sam recently ran a wicked little game of Orkwuld with us playing snotlings goign through "training day"... the only aim being to get *one* of your three snots through the day alive ^_^ (If you dont know what a snotling is think of a 1/4 size goblin, only one tooth, permanantly vacant expression and usually one digit stuffed in ear or nose... they have the intelligence of roughly one cabbage and are almost the lowest in the food chain).

Hmm... what else...?

Ah! yes; recently went back home see the Vicar from my Church on his last day as a priest... quite a lovely service with all the little kiddies giving him cards and stuff ^_^
I felt a bit hypocritical singing the songs and saying "amen" after the prayers but there all good people and theres a feeling of comunity there I dont find much around here anymore....
That and all the fifteen-year olds I knew when I left for uni have gotten "all grown up" over the last three years... yum... (agh! but no! but yes! but... bad owen! naughty owen! in her... I mean your... oh dear...o_0)
Finally... Week after next my direct boss (David) leaves for a weeks holiday, leaving me in charge of sorting out stock and re-order reports and stuff... I think that if I dont stuff it up terribly it might be pay-rise time for me ^_^ (considering it co-incides with the end of my 6th month in the company I think its about time too :P).

Weeeeeee! [25 Aug 2002|08:01pm]
Managed to fix the most evil of problems with the anime i've been downloading: Spending a day and a bit getting an episode, playing it then noticing the distinct lack of sound...
This has been plaguing me for the last week and a bit but now (after downloading a pack of codecs) its fixed! Yatta!
Celebrated with beer and pizza... oh yes... and setting fire to the patio outside my room with lighter fuel... pretty ^_^

Righty ho then... ^_^
Mmmmpf... coffee's worn off from work, played cuthulu tonight at johns... good game; saved the gay vampire lovers from death at the hands of a psychopathic monk (I kid ye not) and got on with the more cuthulu part of the game: being trapped in a large mansion with a nasty beastie that 1: Tore out a black songstresses throat and 2: Did the same to a eminem-clone rapper but with to his crotch :P
All in all, things are looking good ^_^
Owen sleep now... post when he has access to the offices new filter coffee machine and is a bit more hyper ^_^
PS: Hope you like the anime Alys

Wai! [07 Aug 2002|02:09pm]
A night of good anime last night... The latest Kenshin releases have been pants as pants can be... I mean these are pants that should never have seen the light of day... let alone being placed into a DVD box and shipped all the way over to the UK.
So yes... kenshin has been poor of late... so we decided to watch the latest release before Evangelion: Death and Rebirth.
Oh what a treat we were in for ^_^
Sufficed to say: Wai! Not quite as good as the Kyoto arc... but a million times better than the tripe that we've had to suffer through for the last 3 months ^_^
And then we watched Death and Rebirth...

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
EVIL GAINAX
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEVIL GAINAX!!!!!!!

I now have to wait a month to watch Asuka kicking serious EVA booty..... *sob*

So yes.... apart from that all is good in the world. The whole of the house is now employed, I have furniture in my conservatory and GENCON is looming ever closer ^_^
Parents have returned from America at last: Much family history was discovered, along with news that my Dad has a half-brother driving a rig somewhere around virginia. More on that when I drag more info out of them this weekend ^_^
Oh yes... and I should be returning from home this saturday... with my *NEW* computer...*JOY!*

s'actually quite disturbing how close that is to me (especially the noise bit... cant stand noise).

So yes... I'm back in reading, back at work and a bit sad I had to leave all my old friends behind :(
Ohwell, life in the new house is stalled at the moment: need bookshelves and a desk before I can finish unpacking :P
Otherwise all is pretty peachy; payday on friday coincides with going out with housemates for a rock/metal night... yay!
Erm... thats about it really... think i'll knock off early from work ^_^

Huzzah! My 1st holiday in about 4 months starts tonight with me fleeing home by train ^_^
Ahhhhh..... 4 days with a nice big empty house and *nothing* work-related to do. Well... except for feeding the fish... and getting my upgraded computer to work... and copying tonnes of CD's.. but there not really work are they? :P
Downside: I miss RP and generating my grogs for hans game.. gah!
